According to an ETAuto research, the e-cars sales number doesn't match the hype it has created in recent times, as only 1,309 units have sold in the first eight months (April-November) of FY20 translating to merely 0.07 percent of the total Passenger Vehicle (PV) sales in India during the same period.
Tata Motors iconic SUV Sierra which made its debut in 1991 marked a stunning comeback in the form of a futuristic EV concept at the Auto Expo 2020. Talking about revisiting the well-known brand, Bose said, " Sierra has been a part of India's motoring culture and heritage, we want to revive that and turn it into a 'Sierra for this era'."
He further added, "Electrification brings interesting design possibilities as more space can be dedicated to the passenger compartment owing to freeing up of space upfront. The resultant flat floors also make for more flexible seating layouts. The larger passenger compartment allows for different visual proportions in the pure born EVs."
Tata Motors design chief asserted that the industry is going to change from just designing cars to designing the whole ecosystem of Connected, Electric, Shared and Safe (CESS) vehicles, adding that materials like high strength steel, which are lighter yet stronger are being increasingly deployed in passenger car structure to reinforce strength.
