To answer this, many online auto marketplaces are implementing no-touch services that give as much information and special car delivery options to make sure that the consumer makes a confident decision while keeping themselves and the employees safe.
Here is a list of a few online auto portals that have taken all of this into consideration to make sure that when it comes to using their services, everyone wins.
Shift is an online used car portal that is unique in that it makes a 150+ point inspection of every car before its sold.
Located on the front page of the Shift website is a blurb about how the company is responding to the global pandemic, stating that the company is continuing to deliver vehicles for test drives and conduct valuations but with a number of changes to keep consumers and employees safe.
The website is offering a No-Touch Test Drive solution where a Shift concierge delivers a car to a customer's house, cleans the car with disinfectant before handing it over to the customer to drive on their own.
The company is suspending customer visits to its brick-and-mortar locations, temporarily. Those looking to sell or purchase a car through Shift can still schedule test drives and conduct their transactions through the Shift website. They will also still be able to receive home delivery and utilize the at-home evaluation solution.
During the current crisis, Shift will also be waiving delivery fees for all online vehicle purchases.
BacklotCars, an online wholesale marketplace, all dealers are able to sell for free. BacklotCars' Founder and CEO, Justin Davis said in a recent letter to its partners:
“Historically we have focused on and specialized in new-car trades from franchise dealers.
“In these times, we feel it is important to help our independent dealer partners keep their inventory moving, so we are opening the BacklotCars platform for them to sell through as well.”
The company plans to suspend no buy fees for sealed bid sales. For dealers who run their own sealed bid sales, BacklotCars promises to waive all buy fees for dealers' legacy buyers to boost online car sales. To aid in this, the company is implementing more mobile application enhancements.
BacklotCars will also be supporting its float duration flexibility initiative for qualifying dealers using BacklotCars' Float financing product. These dealers will be given 15 days on their "Floats" for no fee.
Cazoo is no stranger to the online auto market. The startup buys used cars and sells them online, delivery them to the consumers driveway, is confident in handling the issues that have arisen from the Coronavirus pandemic.
Founder and CEO, Alex Chesterman said in a recent statement:
“It’s clear that UK consumers are ready to buy cars online in a convenient, hassle-free way.
Cars are an important form of transport for many in our society, whether conducting deliveries or getting to essential jobs and we want to ensure that those who need one can continue to get one. This new round of funding is a strong signal from investors of the scale of the opportunity. Our mission is to deliver the best experience for car buyers across the UK by delivering better selection, value, convenience and quality. That mission is now also focused on keeping consumers safe by not having to leave their homes to buy a car. We are also looking at how Cazoo can help other organisations move essential supplies around the country via our fleet of car transporters in these difficult times.”
Cazoo's FAQ page has information about how vehicles are sold and delivered in the current global climate. The company says that it "fully reconditions" all its vehicles before selling an delivering them. The delivery process is now being done "at a safe distance" to protect both consumers and employees.
