Rightmove Overseas reported an “all-time high” of traffic on the 28th of June as the UK government announced that travel to some popular European destinations will be allowed without having to quarantine. Specifically, the volume of searches was over one million in a single day, the first time Rightmove’s Overseas section has ever reached that number.
Properties in France saw the highest percentage increase in demand with a 32% rise in June compared to the same month in 2019. Spain was up by 25%, Portugal was up by 24% while the demand for Italian property grew 17%. Rightmove Overseas Insights Expert Rachel Beaton attributes the uptick in traffic not only to the lifting of restrictions but also to the British weather which has been typically miserable of late:
“We know that activity on Rightmove Overseas is always an inverse response to the British weather”
Another portal catering to Brits looking to purchase abroad that is looking at the future with some optimism is specialist Spanish property portal Kyero.com. In a recent interview with Spanish expat publication The Olive Press, Director Martin Dell said that:
“Property prices in Spain remain relatively low, and this is an excellent time to make a shrewd investment in the Spanish property market.”
Data from Similarweb shows that along with Rightmove Overseas, specialist ‘buy abroad’ portals such as Kyero and thinkspain.com have also seen an uptick in traffic over the last month as optimism returns about overseas travel for European residents.
