With their users spending more time on their couches and on the phones than ever in recent times, social media has perhaps never been as important for property portals as it is now. If OnlineMarketplaces' social media news feeds are anything to go by, the property portals have ramped up their output and seem to be churning out almost daily reports on their local housing markets (with varying levels of success in capturing our interest it must be said). As any good Social Media Manager will tell you, good content gets followers. So we decided to take a look at which property portals are doing things right in their content department and generating those all important follower numbers. We start our series with a look at portals in Europe...
Leading the pack when it comes to Facebook is idealista, the Spanish property giant that is number one in Spain and Portugal. The portal currently has approximately 1.2 million followers on Facebook, allowing it the number one spot on our list. The reason? Spain’s incredible real estate industry and good SEO. Idealista holds the top spot in a market that relies on holiday buyers.
Under idealista, coming in second when it comes to Facebook follower count, is British property portal, Zoopla, with approximately 706,000. An impressive number but much lower than idealista.
The number count drops drastically between these three, with very few portals actually coming close to overcoming them. What could be the cause of this disparity? Is it a difference in understanding how social media platforms work?
When looking at European property portal Twitter accounts, The top-ranking portal as of this month is Rightmove with 98,000 followers. Second place is another British portal, Zoopla, with approximately 79,000 followers. And in third, idealista, with approximately 61,000 followers.
The follower counts between these three on Twitter are closer in number, though none come close to the Facebook follower counts.
Last, LinkedIn follower counts were taken into consideration and the numbers are in. In first, with approximately 56,000 followers is idealista. Second place goes to Rightmove with approximately 48,000 followers. And third is SeLoger with approximately 28,000 followers.
So there you have it. It looks like idealista and Rightmove are the ones utilizing social media to its fullest with their accounts, having ranked more than once in this list.
