With the competition between property portals to create the most wanted mobile app heating up, US portal homes.com has made a move to cover all bases with the release of its new mobile website and a free application for the BlackBerry Storm.
homes.com, which currently ranks eighth in the Hitwise top 10 US real estate websites list, made its first foray into mobile real estate marketing in March, releasing a real estate search application for the iPhone.
The new homes.com mobile website is said to offer “powerful, full-featured” property searches of sale and rental properties that are updated daily and include maps and driving directions.
The new BlackBerry Storm application allows users to search for properties near their currently location as well as by zip code, city or MLS number. Navigation via Google Maps is also included along with options to bookmark and share properties.
homes.com makes the claim that these new releases make it “the first real estate portal to publish real estate applications for BlackBerry as well as the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, and to launch a mobile website”.
“Forrester Research recently reported that 67 percent of smartphone owners browse the mobile Internet at least once per week--and 30 percent do so daily," added homes.com vice president and general manager Jason Doyle. "homes.com is proud to lead the way in putting agents and brokers in front of mobile users in a consumer-friendly way, whether through our iPhone app, our Blackberry app or simply navigating to homes.com through a mobile browser."
