2010 is already shaping up to be the biggest year for mobile property search yet, with the number of smart phone users growing by the day and a major new player now on the market in the form of Google’s Nexus One.
UK rentals portal lettingweb.com certainly isn’t the first offer its listings via a smart phone application, but the fact that even a portal with just over 7,500 listings has put the effort into developing an iPhone app speaks volumes about the growing importance of mobile property search.
lettingweb.com, which also offers a free SMS alert service for properties that match users' requirements, says its new iPhone app is the first from a lettings-only UK website to show nearby properties through GPS. Standard features such as photo slideshows, agent contact details, and forwarding capabilities are also included.
lettingweb.com’s primary focus is on the Scottish rental market, and the portal says it is one of the main sources of enquiry for the DJ Alexander estate agency. DJ Alexander’s senior property manager, Rob Trotter, had this to say about the growing popularity of mobile property search:
“Accessing websites and property details via handhelds is the way forward. People expect to see property details in a user-friendly format and this is what this application delivers. This technology is not a passing phase and those businesses that embrace it and deliver what customers want will be more competitive in the marketplace.”
