The launch of another UK property website is on the horizon, this time in the form of rentals-focused offering u-rooms.com.
u-rooms.com, which is still under construction, promises to connect landlords and tenants in a "unique" way, and says its business model is "designed to thrive in the current economic condition and will mature to capitalise on a market upswing".
A recent press release gives more detail on how u-rooms.com will operate:
"Instead of providing simple listings, it will offer tenants an intuitive and interactive multi-channel service that will enable them to build a highly personalised search profile that will deliver property shortlists anywhere, anytime, via the PC or mobile and making use of the latest social networking sites."
According to the website, u-rooms.com's first offering will be launched during the first quarter of this year, and a total investment of £300,000 has been raised so far.
The people behind u-rooms.com are Michael Peirce, former chief technology officer of holiday website lastminute.com and Tiscali, and Mark Davies, who previously led online strategy for Unite, a UK-based corporate landlord and provider of student accommodation.
Peirce told propertyportalwatch.com that u-rooms.com is on track to meet its launch target, and that he sees u-rooms.com addressing current market demands.
"This market is the last bastion of the high street that hasn't been disrupted as other verticals such as travel, retail and music have, and we aim to change that since we have experience in all of them," Peirce said.
Peirce went on to explain how he sees u-rooms.com disrupting the market:
"[W]e will be empowering both the flat seeker and the landlords with tools to ensure they have a 'correct' match (between property and prospective tenant) as well as services for pre-tenancy, tenancy and post tenancy."
