Data from a number of UK property websites has revealed an upside to recent freezing temperatures: big jumps in traffic.
The Digital Property Group network has already released numbers for the period 1 to 5 January 2010 that have unique visitor numbers up 27 percent over the same period in 2009.
Now, three other property websites are reporting similar traffic increases, including rightmove.co.uk’s specialist website holidaylettings.co.uk, which had over 1 million visitors at the start of the New Year. propertyshowrooms.com reports this is an increase of 50 percent over the same period in 2009.
smartnewhomes.com, a UK portal specialising in new properties, says it has seen a 23 percent increase in traffic this month as property hunters scour the web for newer, better-insulated homes. smartnewhomes.com did not give a unique visitors total when discussing the increase.
lettingsearch.co.uk had similar results, with a 39 percent increase in January traffic recorded so far. The rentals portal surveyed users and found 30 percent were looking for a place so they could leave the parental nest, while 19 percent simply wanted to move to a new area. lettingsearch.co.uk did not say exactly how many visitors it has seen in January, but states has an average of over 1 million tenant searches a month.
