e-commerce giant Amazon.com has launched an online Peer-to-Peer marketplace service in Bangalore placing it in competition with other local online marketplaces such as OLX, eBay and Quickr.
Those with an Amazon.com account can use the service to sell both new and used items from categories which include: electrical appliances, fashion, computers and electronics.
The services works through a pick up and drop off system where Amazon collects and packages the goods the consumer wants to sell and then delivers them.
This P2P service places the e-commerce trader in direct competition with classifieds sites (which also include property sales) such as OLX and Quickr, but whether Amazon will ever incorporate this category into its marketplace is anyone’s guess.
Amazon first trialed the service last year through its online marketplace Junglee, which it says acted as a test pilot for its new P2P product. The service is now available via both Junglee and Amazon.com for a fee.
