The employment platform was founded by a couple of veteran entrepreneurs in the world of e-commerce, Vera Makarov and José María Pertusa. Thanks to the experience they had lived in their old jobs, they realized the problems that entail not having enough personnel to meet market demand. Based on this need the idea of Apli was born, a startup that promises to find qualified people for temporary positions in less than 24 hours.
The Mexican startup has the objective of solving these big problems with the help of big data and artificial intelligence, and in this way to cover absenteeism in jobs and that these have correct conditions. “There is a lot of talk that artificial intelligence causes unemployment, but we are creating jobs with their help,” the founders say.
Generally, Apli offers jobs in the hospitality industry, positions as room waiter, chef, bartender, stewardess … or also covers some office work as a salesman or telemarketer in call centers. The main niche of the startup is young people, 41% of users are students, 23% are unemployed, 19% part-time workers and 7% are responsible for taking care of their home.
How does the Mexican employment platform work?
The Mexican startup uses big data and artificial intelligence to help connect users with their ideal work. The employment platform has designed a series of predictive models that allow calculating the performance that each worker will have. Your algorithm chooses the best candidate based on the user’s location, experience, and personality.
The available jobs are part-time, full-time and also for weekends. Apli offers a salary of up to 400 pesos per day ($21.30) for each employee, which they receive at the end of their day. In addition, it offers insurance that covers accidents at the workplace.
Apli charges 100 pesos ($5.32) per person per day contracted to companies that are looking for part-time workers. For full-time jobs, the company charges a fee for the month’s salary.
Future objectives of Apli and its possible expansion
The goal of the startup is to use the same selection models that have already been implemented to speed up the recruitment of workers in other industries. Apli intends to operate in other industries, among them; retail sale, warehouse work, logistics and messaging.
Currently, Apli is only operating in Mexico City and its metropolitan area, but the main objective of the company is to carry out an expansion through other cities in Latin America. Pertusa considers that it is a very large market where they have many opportunities to continue growing and meet the different needs of individuals and companies.
A year after being founded, Apli has already registered more than 250,000 users, more than 2,500 shifts have been covered and they are predicted to close this year with an amount of more than 20,000 shifts covered.
