Apple is starting to reconstruct their popular map program on the iPhone using data gathered from their own fleet of vans with sensors along with anonymous data from those who have iPhones and choose to share their information. Apple has promised to ‘take Maps to he next level’ with a new update coming this fall focusing on Northern California.
It is also believed the cars are collecting advanced 3D data that could be crucial for Apple’s self driving car and augmented reality plans.
“We wanted to take this to the next level,” Apple’s Eddy Cue recently said.
“We have been working on trying to create what we hope is going to be the best map app in the world, taking it to the next step.”
