A new Australian app, called Green Room, which is being touted as the “LinkedIn for Hollywood” is currently being used in more than 50 countries around the world, and its maker says it has been created to help get TV and film productions made in an industry plagued by “outdated modes of networking.”
Green Room co-founder and independent filmmaker Kosta Nikas said he teamed up with Peter Lord to establish an online network for people who work in creative industries, because he felt that they are currently under-served by social networks and agency databases.
“There are 100 productions going on in Sydney right now and there’s no way to find out their status or where they are,” stated Nikas.
Users of Green Room are able to search job postings and productions by city and type, as well as make connections.
Filmmakers who enroll in the app and register their production are eligible to apply for a share of a $50,000 film fund. Winners will be judged by a six-member industry panel including HBO Television media and production vice-president Stephen Beres and Red Dog director Kriv Stenders.
The Green Room app is free of charge and can be downloaded from the Apple and Google app stores.
