As we reported two weeks ago eBay has put its classifieds division up for sale and anyone who’s anyone in the world of mega classifieds players is in the mix to snap it up along with a litany of venture capital firms. It has now been reported by the Financial Times that Axel Springer has lodged a bid with the backing of American private equity firm KKR.

A potential deal for eBay Classifieds has been reported to be in the region of $8bn to $10bn but with the share prices of classifieds companies around the world still suffering from huge falls in March, the appetite of financiers to stump up the money may have waned.

Unsurprisingly, Axel Springer, Naspers and eBay themselves are not commenting at this stage and we will have to wait and see who walks away with the business.
