The purpose of any portal worth its salt is to link job seekers to open, relevant positions and fill those empty spaces for employers — two birds and one stone. However, these platforms often lack more "holistic" qualities that connect job openings to what the candidate's skill points are.
A new portal, dubbed as ‘Skills Portal’ (skills.gov.bd) is there to fill the gap.
Developed by the Access to Information (a2i) program of the Prime Minister’s office, this new portal is designed to become a meeting place for the industrial recruiter, skilled trainers and the job seekers.
Talking about the portal, Project Director of a2i Mustafizur Rahman said, there are three stakeholders of the portal: industrial establishments, skill development organizations and unemployed men and women.
Through this portal the industrial organizations notify their skills requirement. “For example, if any steel company needs someone with the skill of light engineering, they can post the requirement in the skill portal. The portal will then work as a match maker," said Rahman.
He said not only the employers, any organization who works in developing and providing training skills—suppose, here in this case, an organization providing light engineering skills—can post in the portal about the training programs they conduct.
“And finally the job seekers can get benefitted by this portal by finding the right kind of job as per their skill. For example, a person with light engineering skills and certification can get job as well as further training from this portal,” said Rahman.
