In the US, the Friday after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday; it marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
Historically it has been a day when most major retailers open very early and offer great sales, especially in home electronics, but not excluding anything else one would buy as a Christmas gift, from socks to perfumes.
However, this last Black Friday saw home improvement chain stores offer large sales as well. This got me to thinking. Why don’t property portals (all be it in the US) take advantage of this as well? How?
- By selling ad space to the chain stores that want to promote their sales. I mean who better to buy some paint than someone who wants to sell their home or has just bought one.
- By adding a holiday section for the week leading up to Thanksgiving with special fixer upper properties that can be up-sold to Agents, or given as loyalty rewards.
A cross promotional deal could be setup with Home Improvement Stores with deals such as, ie: “Buy this apartment, or rent this apartment by Sunday and get a washer/dyer hookup,” or even offer some new light bulbs… you can never have enough of those.
Is this the beginning of ‘Holiday Pages” for Christmas, Easter, Passover and/or Ramadan? I don’t think we are there yet, but it could be implemented for next Thanksgiving. Happy shopping.
