Buyers Still Want to Buy but Not Necessarily in City Centres

New data on property hunter intentions has been scarce since the beginning of the global pandemic in March, but new data released by Rightmove suggests that those people who were planning to move home before, still plan to do so.

40% said they were going ahead with a move as planned, and 54% said they had postponed their move for now but would carry on as planned when possible. The data released on Rightmove’s website is based on answers from attendees of the portal giant’s Q&A session for home hunters, who we can assume are a motivated bunch anyway, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. It is though an encouraging sign for property professionals that there is still optimism in the market.

The other finding of note was that, in line with trends seen earlier in the pandemic, respondees signalled a desire to move away from crowded city centres to more spacious surroundings. This is something that was upheld by anecdotal evidence from agents questioned as well.

As governments around the world report that the worst is over, there appears to be an air of spring optimism for the property market (in the United Kingdom at least) despite the serious circumstances.
