The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands has launched a computer application that will streamline the procedures for registration of holiday rental homes, using the electronic headquarters of the Ministry, and start this activity in just 24 hours.

In the press conference by the Council of Government, the councilor of the area, Isaac Castellano, explained that the goal of this online system, which was recently launched, "is to minimize the bureaucratic burden of registration of holiday homes to the owners, in addition to guaranteeing a greater control of the offer that is produced with respect to this type of accommodation offer."

The counselor explained that this service will allow an immediate response as soon as the user enters in the application the data referring to the responsible declaration, receiving the document accrediting the registration of the holiday home in the General Tourist Register that will enable starting this activity the same day of the request.

At the same time, it allows to offer an integral service to both individuals and companies, since not only they can proceed to the registration of the houses, but also to undertake changes of data or the own cessation of the activity.

Isaac Castellano indicated that this is an initiative that has been developed in collaboration with the Cabildos, which are competent in terms of registration of holiday homes and who develop this activity in the General Tourist Register.

Also, the application will allow to have a geo-referenced database of all the holiday homes of the Autonomous Community and, therefore, will allow the user of this type of tourist accommodation to know the existing offer.

The counselor clarified that there is still no data on how many holiday homes have been regularized since the implementation of this application, but stressed that one of the great challenges is the regularization of the entire offer, because of some 139,000 beds in holiday homes identified in the archipelago, barely 35,000 are regularized.
