Getcursos.com is a jobs platform which offers its users courses in photography, cooking courses, even programming or finance. With suppliers from all of Latin America, the platform centralizes learning opportunities, turning them into an experience.
Two young Chilean engineers Pablo Pumarino and Tomás Cifuentes created the one-stop platform which offers classes which can help individuals to improve their skills for better employment options.
To realize their idea, Pumarino and Cifuentes raised capital from angel investors, former executives of BTG Pactual, seed capital of CORFO, and got the patron of Incuba UC. “The platform -programmed in PHP- is 100% done by us and responds to the need to have an objective and intelligent tool that can help people to orient themselves and easily evaluate the classes of their interest based on accessibility, price, and quality”, says Cifuentes.
With high-quality suppliers and independent professors of various disciplines, the business model implies a commission for each reservation of quota, which for the suppliers translates into an increase in their sales. In addition, they receive a series of tools that allow them to generate better content and have a better fit with their demand. “The centralization of hundreds of learning opportunities leads people to have the confidence to enroll in more classes and, at the same time, we help educators fill their ’empty seats’, just like Despegar.com does in tourism,” explains Cifuentes.
In short, educators increase the visibility of their classes in an exclusively refined community for potential students and, thanks to the yield management system -which airlines and hotels have used for years- maximize revenue generation by optimizing prices. ” We give them information on what price they could charge when to dictate a class, trends, industry information and feedback from their students to improve their offer, “says the founding partner of Getcursos.com
The Marketplace, which already has partnerships with organizations such as Coursera, Culinary, and Reqlut.com, covers such a wide range that includes non-traditional classes such as cooking, gardening, surfing or dancing; even more formal ones such as programming, design or technology applied to processes.
