Nairobi’s leading online classified’s firm OLX recently launched a paid advert option, OLX Tops Ads, in a bid to target sellers who wish to have their adverts appear at the top of the website. Now for a small fee they can get more visibility for their items.
Vehicles are the most popular item for sale on OLX with 50,000 listings posted on the site each month. And with 60 per cent of them sold, it makes sense that car dealers want to get on board with the new service.
According to OLX Country Manager Peter Ndiang’ui, many car dealers operating car yards are now putting up vehicles for sale on OLX too.
‘‘We realised that some sellers, who come to OLX, wish to sell their items quickly to make money and do not mind paying a small fee to appear at the top. Our ads are relatively cheaper compared to placing an advertisement in any other platform,” said OLX country manager, Peter Ndiang’ui told Daily Nation.com.
While the focus will be on automotive advertising, the move is intended to create a new revenue stream for the company.
