The shortage of specialists, managers and low-level employees has finally taken on existence-threatening dimensions: the hospitality industry is facing collapse. But what solutions are there? Can digitization really help? And if so, how exactly? Restaurant Digital World, a guide by digitalization expert Gastrofix, now shows measures that can be used to effectively counteract staffing woes, and is now available as a free e-paper.

On a total of 64 pages, the magazine not only introduces new digital tools and helpers that can relieve the burden on existing staff, but also shows elaborately researched vendor comparisons, including from the areas of order tools and personnel deployment planning. In addition, experts have their say in interviews and guest contributions. Prizeotel boss Marco Nussbaum reviews his controversial doubling of trainee cases from last year and reveals whether this was not a PR gag. Financial expert Nicole Nitsche explains why new payment methods such as mobile payment are much more a blessing than a curse, especially for the hospitality industry. Kurt Wehner from DEHOGA North Rhine-Westphalia clarifies that digitization will never replace people in the hospitality industry.

On top of that there are exciting stories about the online campaign #hierwillicharbeiten, which fights against sweeping gastro-bashing, the pioneering work of business doctoral student Katharina Blöcher in the search for the restaurant of the future, and about dropouts as a new target group for gastronomic companies.

Reduce fears, show solutions

"The issue of staff shortages - and we hear this from customers and partners every day - threatens the hospitality industry in its entirety. Our industry is slowly bleeding, and we can only counteract this disturbing development with smart technology," explains Stefan Brehm, Gastrofix CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Restaurant Digital World in personal union. "Our main intention was therefore to reduce the still existing skepticism about digitization with the magazine and to point out concrete solutions for the shortage of staff that every restaurateur can implement relatively easily."

The magazine

Restaurant Digital World was originally designed as a classic customer magazine. After a comprehensive reorientation at the end of 2017, it has since appeared once a year as a monothematic, editorially edited trade magazine. The new issue (No. 4) with the main focus on staff shortages was presented for the first time at the Internorga in mid-March and met with great interest. The magazine is now also available as an e-paper and a PDF download online in the Gastrofix library.
