The job of an HR manager can be a tough one. No matter how much time and effort you put into recruiting new members and making sure they are suitable for a certain position, you will always have issues with verifying all of their credentials or getting enough information on certain candidates.

Job portals can allow you to find ways to hire new people without having to go through countless resumes and applications, as they help connect you with people who specialize in your niche. In order to help you achieve that, here are some tips to help you choose the best job portal for your needs.

What exactly is a job portal?

A job portal or otherwise known as a career portal is essentially an online job board which allows various applicants to find jobs in their respective fields. At the same time, it gives employers the opportunity to go through the candidates’ profiles and pick the ones best for an available position. 

There are quite a few different platforms which offer job portals where you can start your search for the right employees. There are also quite a few different factors you need to take into consideration in order to choose the right one. 

  1. Check whether the portal is free or paid for the candidates

One of the main features that you should look out for when it comes to finding the right job portal to choose candidates from is to see whether it is free or paid from your candidates. There are many people who are looking for jobs online and all of them vary when it comes to how much they want a certain job they apply for.

Some people will be looking for one job in particular while others will try and apply to many different ones just so they increase their chances of getting hired. The difference you will be able to notice when it comes to paid portals vs. free ones is that the people on the paid portals will be much more interested in the job you have posted since they will have to pay a fee for a membership or to apply for an individual job.

  1. Check the easy access to social media profiles

Most candidates that apply for a job online will want to be able to have easy access to the social media pages of the companies they are trying to enter. This will help them get to learn more things about the working conditions and the ethics of the company and it will essentially help your company become more likable and approachable for your online job applicants.

Hence, it is important that you look for a job board which will make your social media profiles easy accessible to whoever is interested in getting more information on your company and solidifying whether they would like to apply for the open position or not.

  1. Check if it is up to date with current job openings

A job portal which updates its job openings frequently is important for both the potential employee and the employers posting a job offer. When it comes to the people looking for a new job, this is extremely important as they will be able to apply for new jobs which are still going to be available.

The older a job listing is, the less likely an applicant is to miss out on getting a job they will potentially truly be good at. At the same time, frequently updated job listings give the companies posting jobs online the chance to contact with the right employees and speed up the hiring and onboarding process.

  1. Check if they have a frequently-updated blog

Another factor which should help you when it comes to choosing a job portal is whether it comes with a blog which is frequently updated with new content. Depending on the niche you work in and the niches the website supports, the portal should be able to have people working for it who will be able to create the written content of significance to their users.

While this might not come in handy to you at all times, they should still create content which will be of help to both the people creating job listings and those looking for a job. For example, the job board should keep their clients up to date with new additions to the website as well as tips on how to become more interesting to potential employers and how to choose the right employee for the other party.

Blog posts should be informative and interesting and also posted frequently enough so that they can make an impact, especially if the job portal is new. This will ensure that the people running it are interested in not only providing the users with frequent updates but also that they put effort and funds into creating a platform which goes beyond the common online job hunt for most users.

In our day and time, most people tend to spend most of their time on their mobile phones. Whether they are running a company or trying to join one, they are bound to have limited free time to spend in front of their laptops and manage all their responsibilities through there.

This is exactly why a mobile app is an important asset to not only the job portal but honestly every platform someone uses. In this particular situation, a mobile app gives both parties using the job board the opportunity to quickly apply for jobs, schedule interviews and keep in contact with one another easily.

The flexibility a mobile app offers will not be able to be replaced by any other type of messaging app, as the platforms offer a sense of security for both parties, especially when they have to communicate through written text. Therefore, finding a job portal which offers an app should be one of your priorities.

Creating your own job portal

Another thing you can try doing if you can’t seem to find a job portal which can cover all of your business’s needs is to create your own platform. Starting a job board on a particular niche does include a certain amount of work but it’s not impossible. 

The first step you will have to do is to create a website for your business if it hasn’t already been created. If this step is covered, you can then proceed to do your research and purchase job board software in order to get started.

While looking for the right job board, there are a few things you should take into consideration, especially if you will only be using the board solely for your company’s job listings. The first and obvious factor should be the price of the software. This process should not necessarily be an expensive one, but you should be able to provide your users with certain features which will make their experience with your platform easier.

Along with that, you should make sure that the company that provides you with the software will be available and easily accessible when you need help, especially during the first few weeks of using it. Probably the last thing you can do in order to complete this process and start accepting applications from candidates is to start advertising your job portal online.

The best place to advertise your job portal would be on Google, as most of the people interested in finding a job will be using a popular search engine in order to look for job listings. Along with Google ads, you can also put up ads on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, where you will be much more likely to find people interested in your job listings.

Finding the right portal for your company’s needs

Trying to find a new, skillful employee online who will be able to perfectly fill an open spot is going to be a rather difficult task. The purpose of a job portal is to provide you with a way to come in contact with professionals who will truly become assets to your company.

Depending on your company’s niche as well as the individual needs of a certain job opening, a job board should help you find someone who will be able suitable. Just keep in mind that it will all greatly depend on what the job portal had to offer to you as a client and this is exactly why you should know how to pick the right one in advance.
