Australian fintech company PromisePay has secured a landmark deal with eBay owned classifieds portal Gumtree.com. The company also used this opportunity to announce a name change to Assembly Payments.
Gumtree and Assembly Payments will be working together to service the new Gumtree Connect platform. This new service connects homeowners with tradespeople and allows them to receive quotes, schedule and manage appointments and make payments all in one place. Assembly Payments will be providing the payment platform.
Gumtree Connect is all part of Gumtree’s bid to move away from the online classifieds space and become an on-demand labour matching service.
Initially the service will be available in South Africa where Gumtree is the dominant brand with six million users a month.
Assembly Payments co-founder and chief executive Simon Lee told Business Insider getting a foot in the door within eBay meant that the former PromisePay had now arrived “on the global stage”.
“For them to look over the world and choose Assembly is hugely gratifying. Giving Gumtree the ability to provide safe and secure transactions on mobile and online gives them a massive advantage over competing marketplaces in the home services space,” he said.
