Hiring Roundup: Zoopla, Homely, :Different and Real Estate Board of New York

With the summer holidays over and governments and companies looking to try to get workers back in the office, it looks like it’s hiring season and a chance to get some fresh faces in to shake things up. We’ve already covered some incomings at Realtor.com, Juwai and Homesnap this week, but they aren’t the only ones making changes...

Zoopla

Jo Wickremasinghe joins as Product Director, a role which includes major responsibility for all of the company’s property portals (Zoopla, Prime Location and Smart New Homes). Simon Woodward joins as Product Director for Zoopla’s CRM suite. From the world of fintech Dan Martins joins as Product Director in charge of what the press release cryptically calls “re-imagining products which help customers grow their business, on and off Zoopla”. From #1 auto portal, Tony Collins comes on board as Director of Product Design.

Interesting because: The company announced a hiring spree in July centred around its tech departments. This very much looks like an attempt to get some new blood in and freshen up ideas around the product Zoopla puts out, not only as a property portal but within its other offerings.

Homely

David Holmes comes in as Queensland State Manager. An expert in auctions, a very popular method of transaction down-under, ‘Holmesy’ will lead the Homely Queensland Sales Team as well as work to make a success of the portal’s Agent Participation Program.

Interesting because: The Aussie challenger portal has seen real growth over the last twelve months and seems to be looking to go after big names in the agency business.

:Different

Kasey McDonald joins Australian PropTech outfit :Different as Head of Leasing. The firm specialises in property management and McDonald, who is described as an influencer and mentor, will be charged with bringing two departments together to make sure landlords get the best possible experience.

Interesting because: The company now manages over $1 billion worth of property in Australia and recently closed a $7.1 million round to fund expansion, and, apparently, some new hires.

Real Estate Board of New York

New York’s real estate residential listing service has a new boss in the form of former Realtor.com VP and Trulia Co-Founder Ninve James. James will be in charge of the Real Estate Board of New York’s residential listing service which is essentially a service which centralises and aims to standardise all listings before syndicating the listings through its network (which doesn’t include Zillow).

Interesting because: New York is a fascinating industry with a lot of competing interests. Zillow-owned Streeteasy is at constant war with agents and the RLS has struggled to guarantee accurate listings recently.
