Curiosity about a particular neighborhood where you are thinking of buying is common and good to have. Unless you are currently living in a particular area, or you have a reliable source who can help you make an informed decision when considering a property, you are playing a game of virtual ‘Real Estate Russian Roulette,’ especially when it comes to the international market.
Although some property portals around the world, focusing on the local market offer a peek into a neighborhood, with input from other users, and research conducted by the portal, this feature has not yet been incorporated on international real estate portals…until now.
In the first weeks of January, Mondinion.com, the international real estate portal has introduced a fifth tab on their home page, the Neighborhood section. Though currently appearing only on a select few listings, the feature is unique on an international real estate network.
Zoltan A. Baranyai, Mondinion.com founder commented: “In our every-day work we are focusing on giving better and better services for our members and visitors. The Neighborhood application gives more transparency on the searched property’s localization. So, everybody can find what are the main sights in the neighborhood and if there is a restaurant, a hotel, a pharmacy, a hospital, a supermarket, a police station or a church in the walking and driving distance.”
The Neighborhood Tab contains a Details and a POI sub-tab. The Details Sub-Tab shows a description about the respective property’s neighborhood, while at the point of interest sub-tab (POI) users can follow upon the different buildings and landmarks in walking and driving distances. By clicking on one of these icons, the landmarks of that type will be seen on a map. This is all done automatically, the users just have to give their address and the website generates the rest, putting on a map everything that is nearby and can be found about its location.
Relevant and irrelevant points of interest based on the listing category have been separated, so users can easily find what they are looking for. The relevant POI-s appear with a blue icon and the less relevant ones with a green icon. In the near future Mondinion.com will also add a POI based search where users can find properties located in the vicinity of different specified landmarks.
The neighborhood data is provided by OpenStreetMap and their search engine. Nicolas Mollet provided Modinion the Map Icons used for representing the different types of landmarks.
“If our members, as an owner / agent / developer would like to benefit from this feature and offer even more details about their property, all they have to do is add the exact address of the property and we will do the rest. We will show to potential buyers how rich (or not…) is their neighborhood: restaurants, schools, parks, clubs, museums, beaches, banks, supermarkets, etc., everything that is nearby to help potential buyers to make a buying decision!” – added Mr. Zoltan A. Baranyai.
