With a number of recent articles posted about the introduction of Android apps by property portals, it was interesting to come across these survey results.
Nielsen recently surveyed mobile consumers in the U.S. over the age of 18. Forty percent of them have smart phones. The most popular operating system is Android – 40 percent of mobile consumers reported that their smart phone ran Android OS. Apple came in second with its iOS commanding 28 percent.
About a third of those intending to get a new smart phone, say they want their next smartphone to be an iPhone; another third say they want an Android device.
Early adopters of new technologies prefer their next phone to run Android – 40 percent for Android compared to 32 percent for iOS.
The “late adopters” among likely smart phone upgraders tend to be “not sure” about which operating system they’d like in their next smart phone. These “undecideds” are the ones device makers will be aiming to win over.
It would certainly seem if you are a property portal interested in capturing the mobile internet market, its necessary to have both app platforms.
