St. Thomas and Elgin county with be the 29th region in Ontario, Canada to establish its own specialised immigration job site. The portal is set to go live on the 26th of January highlighting the best the region has to offer prospective residents. The online project, funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and international Trade, is unlike other immigration resources websites.
“This is more of a recruitment tool … The new immigration portal is targeting people who are not yet in St. Thomas or Elgin county and who are thinking of moving,” said Janan Dean, immigration portal project coordinator in a statement.
“The Local Immigration Partnership, their website mainly has resources for local organizations and people that are already in the area.”
“We’re really looking to put St. Thomas and Elgin as a good place to live and work on the map … We’re really trying to show people what we have to offer here,” said Dean. “They’re going to find information about the services in the area that can help them resettle here … It’s just sort of hitting all the different areas that people would look for when they’re moving.”
Each immigration portal in Ontario gives prospective newcomers an overview of each area, including details on education opportunities, cost of living, recreational activities, housing, employment prospects and daily life in the region. The portals provide basic information to help families and individuals make an informed decision about where they choose to settle.
