Property portal OnTheMarket has announced it will hold 20 meetings across the UK this month for member agents to explain “progress and plans” for the portal.
The meetings come after the recent judgment by the Competition Appeal Tribunal that Agents’ Mutual (the parent company of OTM) won the one other portal ruling against Gascoigne Halman.
OTM’s chief executive Ian Springett recently sent out an email to member agents explaining that future plans for the portal could not be expanded upon while the legal proceedings were in place.
The legal battle began in 2016 when Agents’ Mutual sued estate agents Gascoigne Halman for damages in the High Court accusing them of breaking the terms of their agreements by listing properties on more than one other portal.
In his email to member agents, Springett said:
“Your Board has been working over the last few months on substantial new plans which will support the further development of OnTheMarket. “These plans are well advanced but could not be finalised pending the outcome of the litigation. We are now ready to share them with Members at these regional meetings. Our aim is to gain Members’ support for the new plans and be in a position to implement them as soon as reasonably possible.”
The email then contains a link to the 20 locations, starting in Stafford, going as south as Exeter and as north as Livingston, before concluding in Bournemouth. The letter stresses the meetings are private, for members only and by invitation only.
Apology:
An earlier version of this article wrongly stated that Agents Mutual won recent legal action against estate agents Moginie James. This information was inaccurate and we sincerely issue an apology to Moginie James.
