Chilean property portal Portalinmobiliario.com has participated in a national sales event known as ‘Cyber Day’ where over three days properties worth a combined $6.2 million were sold. The event is the first of its kind for the portal and follows on the back of parent company Mercado Libre’s successful Cyber Monday held last year. The three-day promotion is an initiative for companies across Chile to offer limited discounts of their products and stimulate the economy with sales on everything from clothes to houses.
Users were offered 400 residences across 180 projects from around 60 developers and agents across the country with discounts of up to 20% offered in some cases. In what appears to be a first for the country, home hunters could reserve properties via a completely online process. As a result of the promotion, year on year visits to the portal were up 156% for the period and the event was labelled a huge success by Portalinmobiliario.com Daniel McCleary:
“This is the first time that we’ve participated in Cyber and we’ve had excellent results. If we compare it with the Cyber Monday event from last year, where we participated together with Mercado Libre with a selection of properties, we can see that we had an increase of 257% in property reservations.”
The concept of an online sales event run through property portals at which developers and agents offer discounts on certain units seems to be an idea that is gaining traction. Recently, dotproperty held a successful Black Friday event in Thailand, in Panama Encuentra24 recently held an ‘Secret Sale’, in Mexico Vivanuncios has held an online expo this year, and in Sri Lanka LankaPropertyWeb has done likewise.
