Owning and running a property portal is becoming a more and more complex business. You have to think about everything from industry sales and marketing, product development, through to the generation of traffic and the conversion of that traffic into leads. And you have to do all of this in an increasingly competitive market.
A range of businesses have launched over the last 5 years to help property portals with many of the tasks that they have to do to be successful. They each have created simple to use “plug and play” products that make launching and running a property portal much easier. These products include Mitula and Trovit for driving traffic, Adslot for helping optimise return from display advertising sales, Floorplanner and Diakrit for floor plan solutions, and ListGlobally for adding international advertising and property search to a property portal. Even Property Portal Watch itself is a supplier of knowledge, advice and guidance to the industry.
This is the first in a series of articles that will look at some of these “plug and play” solutions for property portals.
Every portal around the world has the same problem. They have multiple listing feeds coming into their business and these listing feeds break – all the time. They are expensive (both time and people) to set up and expensive to manage. It can take weeks to set up a feed to “onboard” a new advertiser and sometimes, when these feeds break, the first you know about it is when an agent rings the customer care center and complains.
The job of Transmit is to simplify this problem. Transmit is a simple to use listing feeds management tool. Using a simple interface, anyone can set up a new feed in minutes, test it, and then send it live. Transmit then continue to process all the listing through this feed and if any listing (or feed) fails, it proactively lets you and if you want, the customer know.
At the heart of it, Transmit is a simple feed mapping tool. It takes one incoming schema and maps it to your database structure. You set up rules around each of the fields and Transmit then processes all feeds and all listings within a feed to make sure that these listings meet your rules. If they fail, you are alerted before the customer knows and you are able to take pre-emptive action to fix the problem. In fact, the system can go as far as letting the agent know that one of their listings has a problem and offer them suggestions to fix it.
No longer do portals needs to divert the work of highly trained and paid coders to solve relatively simple feed management issues. Transmit can be used by anyone with a just few hours training.
The most impressive thing about Transmit is that it does all of this at a fraction of the current costs incurred by most portals in handling feeds. The product has been in beta testing with rent.com.au in Australia, metrocubicos.com in Mexico, and Listglobally for the last 12 months. Each of these companies has saved $000’s through less head count while improving the quality of service they are providing their advertisers.
The team from Transmit will be at the Property Portal Watch Conference in Barcelona along with many of the other property portal accelerator businesses.
Transmit is one of the businesses, along with Property Portal Watch, in the Classified Ad Ventures incubator.
