UK lettings portal Property Squirrel has taken the bold move of scrapping all listing fees for letting agents.
As of August 2013, letting agents can list properties on the portal free of charge. This is going against the market trend of constantly upping subscription fees.
The portal is the brain child of Steven Keith. Armed with a Masters degree in Software Engineering, and the desire to make searching for property online as painless as possible, Steven launched the portal in 2012, announcing to the world: “We’re nuts about property, and have plenty of apartments to rent in Edinburgh, flats to rent in Glasgow and homes all over Scotland.”
Since its introduction to the online world, the portal has seen steady growth in the volume of properties listed, traffic, and tenant referrals; whilst the bulk of the flats to rent on the website are in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Dundee, the site is growing everywhere.
Agents with a small portfolio will be able to log into the brand new agent admin area and upload their data, whereas agents with large portfolios may be able to have the process automated.
Property Squirrel underwent a facelift earlier this year; mainstreaming the entire look and feel of the site made for a ‘friendlier’ site for users, offering a better browsing experience. The company also made the website easier to view on smartphones, and other small devices.
