UK online real estate portal Rightmove has sent an email to agents in the UK reminding them that a sales property previously listed on its site cannot be re-listed as new within 14 weeks of the listing being taken off.
The portal announced the 14-week listing rule just before Christmas as part of its crackdown on portal juggling – a practice where agents deliberately de-list properties and then re-list them to bump them to the top of search results.
Last year the practice was banned after months of submissions and a warning was issued from industry regulator the National Trading Standards Estate Agency Team. NTSEAT said that estate agents who deliberately mislead potential home buyers through portal juggling could be prosecuted and banned from the industry.
In a reminder email to member agents, Rightmove reiterates its position that the change has come following discussions with agents and industry bodies.
