Boomin, the new UK portal set to launch later this year, has invited members of the SayNoToRightmove protest movement to a secret screening of what it will be offering agents when it launches. Until now the new venture’s model has been a closely guarded secret -Boomin declined to take part in our UK Challengers profile series- yet speculation and media headlines have not been in short supply in a national property industry anticipating the launch of what many feel may be a viable and well-funded alternative to Rightmove hegemony.
Towards the end of August, SayNoToRightmove figurehead Rob Sargent declared that he had been given a look under the bonnet of Boomin and was actively considering signing his agency up to its offering. It now seems that this invitation has been extended to all agents who are part of the anti-Rightmove movement, via webinars to be held on the 29th and 30th of September subject to their signature of non-disclosure agreements.
Boomin was founded by Kenny and Michael Bruce earlier this year and has made a point of hiring staff who have previously worked at other UK portal companies. With the queue of portals lining up to try and take a slice of the Rightmove cake ever-growing, many in the industry feel that Boomin may be the only challenger with enough marketing clout to make any serious dent in the portal’s market dominance, although specifics about the portal is to be funded have remained opaque thus far.
