American realtor giant Redfin has released data from its website which suggests that people in the states are looking for more space with their next home. According to the data, in May 36% of searches were filtered for single-family-homes (detached homes) which is up from 33% in February and represents a 4 year high. Tampa, Boston, Seattle, San Jose and Las Vegas were reported among the cities that saw the biggest increases in single-family-home filtering.
Redfin economist Tayor Marr suggested that users who previously might have been willing to sacrifice space and comfort for a shorter commute “now want their own yards and home offices” thanks to flexible work from home policies.
Although not strictly a property portal, the number of listings on Redfin’s site and its national coverage effectively make it one of the top real estate sites in the country. The company’s data follows a trend we’ve seen in other markets and with Redfin now releasing data on a weekly basis, it will be interesting to see if the trend continues.
