BlueSG, Singapore’s first large-scale electric car-sharing operation has caught the attention of local drivers, clocking in over 100 rentals in the first three hours after its launch.
The plan being offered by BlueSG is a monthly subscription, with rides costing 50 cents per minute. Overall, prices are comparable to those of local taxis or Grab and Uber’s. As an example, a 35-minute drive in a BlueSG car costs $17.50 whereas, a private-hire car would cost around $18, and a regular taxi would have been between $16 and $20.
One thing to take into consideration is the fact that the per-minute pricing for the electric car can fluctuate according to traffic conditions. So, if a trip which would usually take 20 minutes, with heavy traffic it may take 50 minutes, which would then significantly increase the fare’s price to $27, compared to a private-hire car’s price of $14 or that of a taxi, which would amount to $18.
Still, BlueSG’s per-use rental costs are an attractive choice for many consumers. The company boasts, 2,000 people have already signed up as BlueSG users since its launch.
