Airbnb has become much more popular than hotels in recent years, mostly due to lower costs. However, many are still looking for hotel-level accommodations. It’s hard to believe, but Airbnb has been around for nearly a decade. The company began with two lowly inflatable mattresses on the living room floor of a San Francisco flat. Today, the company boasts 4.5 million listings in more than 81,000 cities around the world. In many ways, they’ve grown

Many ride-sharing and self-driving car companies are trying to get the word out about their products. Self-driving cars are especially on the rise, with Waymo promising to bring them to new cities nationwide. Alphabet recently announced it was launching a Waymo ride-sharing app this year, and recently ordered thousands of Fiat-Chrysler Pacifica minivans, which Waymo will retrofit with its proprietary LiDAR technology, which uses lasers to measure distance and identify objects. Bird is looking to raise funds at about a $300 million pre-money valuation, according to people familiar with the round. It’s a reflection of how over the moon investors are about non-automobile transportation within cities. Update: The company has confirmed that it closed the Series B round co-led by Valor Equity Partners and Index Ventures. With this new influx of cash, the company expects to expand to 50 markets by the
