UK market leader rightmove.co.uk has posted a new record of 28.3 million pages served on 10 January 2011, however the portal is also facing criticism from agents over a price increase.
rightmove.co.uk says the traffic record mirrors last January when a new record of just over 25 million pages was also set on the first working Monday of the New Year.
“The year-on-year uplift of over 3.3 million pages is assisted by rightmove.co.uk’s increasing market share which now stands at over 82 percent of the top four property portals according to data from Experian Hitwise,” the portal states.
“The figure of over 28.3 million pages in a single day also compares very favourably with the traffic levels that other property websites have recently reported,” adds rightmove.co.uk director Miles Shipside . “Savvy agents and developers will no doubt be comparing the significant difference in traffic numbers as evidence of how much further a Rightmove membership goes in terms of reaching the UK’s largest possible online property audience.”
But not all agents are happy with rightmove.co.uk at present, with estateagenttoday.co.uk reporting that the portal has said agents can choose between higher subscriptions or paying for more rightmove.co.uk products.
rightmove.co.uk is now under the management of Peter Brooks-Johnson, who moved into the role of managing director last week.
Meanwhile, Rightmove Overseas is reporting its own traffic boost, with searches up 4.8 percent in December.
“Typically we’d see a seasonal decline in search activity from November to December of around 5 percent, so a positive upswing of 4.8 percent was a welcome at year end,” says Robin Wilson, head of Rightmove Overseas.
Finally, globaledge.co.uk reports that rightmove.co.uk has recently added the ability to “like” its properties on Facebook. The “like” option now appears to the right of property photos, allowing home hunters to share listings with their Facebook friends.
