Indiana-based Community Health Network, an integrated system, has started using text messages to recruit nurses and other hospital staff.
CHN said it is the first health system in Indiana to use Canvas, a text-based interviewing and recruiting platform to bring in nurses, as well as social workers, housekeepers, security and other workers.
According to the Indianapolis Star, Canvas enables recruiters to respond to applications from job candidates with a text, and the candidate may write back and answer any questions about their application. The candidate can then schedule an on-site interview or arrange for a phone call.
Recruiters send one message to multiple candidates and have standard responses ready for frequently asked questions.
CHN’s Human Resources Digital Marketing Manager, Scott Sendelweck, said the system wanted to recruit faster, better and at a lower cost, with a special focus on medical school graduates, as many prefer texting over a phone call as the first contact.
Sendelweck told the Star that the company decided to go the text recruitment route as it is super-fast and very efficient.
Since its initial use of Canvas, the company claims to have reached out to nearly two thousand candidates.
