The recent Rentals United Global Short-Term Rental Tech Report shows that property managers are becoming increasingly tech savvy and adopting an increasing number of technology solutions to help them stay competitive

The VrTech competition, an annual awards celebrating the latest innovations in the global vacation rental technology sector, has announced that it is accepting applications for the VrTech Startup Awards 2020.

VrTech, which is sponsored by leading channel manager solution, Rentals United and Howzat Partners, is in its fourth consecutive year. Vanessa de Souza Lage, Founder of the competition and CMO of Rentals United said:

“The competition aims to give the most innovative young start-ups in the vacation rental industry the limelight they deserve and to celebrate the creativity and bright minds that the vacation rental industry has attracted in recent years. Our industry continues to transform and grow at a phenomenal rate, and it’s exciting to see all the start-ups developing solutions for the ecosystem.”

The recent Rentals United Global Short-Term Rental Tech Report shows that property managers are becoming increasingly tech savvy and adopting an increasing number of technology solutions to help them stay competitive. More established tech solutions, such as payment providers, accounting tools and keyless entry are now complemented by emerging tech like 3D tours, chatbots, home automation solutions, noise control devices and voice concierge services. The short-term rental industry is a breeding ground for start-ups and disruptive ideas, and VrTech celebrates the most innovative emerging companies out there.

After the initial vetting process by VrTech, the list goes to public voting, after which time the shortlisted start-ups will go before a judging panel of industry leaders before culminating in a final pitch at October’s Vacation Rental World Summit in Annecy, France.

Last year Operto was the winner of the VrTech StartUp awards. Operto’s Smart Stay automation solution provides property managers with a software platform to manage access, temperature control and monitoring that streamlines operations and improves the host/guest relationship. Operto CEO, Michael Driedger, said:

“The VrTech awards are a great forum in which to recognise the talent powering start-ups in the short-term rental industry. It is important to highlight this in order to encourage further innovation and tech development in the future, allowing those companies to jump to the next stage.”
