Whathouse.co.uk is teaming up with its sister publication Show House as media sponsors of the Hope Challenge 2013, a charity event taking place in July to raise money for Habitat for Humanity, which builds or renovates property for the poorest people in the UK and many countries overseas.
Since its inception in 1976, the charity has helped over 3million people by building, renovating and repairing homes. The event will raise enough funds to house dozens more families in need of basic habitable and safe homes, something that most of us can take for granted.
The Hope Challenge takes place in the Peak District in early July. Over the course of a weekend, each team of up to six people must construct a shelter for themselves out of materials they’ve brought along (purpose-made tents are forbidden!), to protect themselves from the elements for two nights. A number of other challenges will be set over the course of 48 hours with prizes for the most successful teams.
The whathouse.co.uk/Show House team will be jointly led by editor of whathouse.co.uk Keith Osborne and news editor of Show House magazine, George Sell. Initially preparations have included recruiting a team from the sales and editorial teams of each publication, and worrying about the prospect of being unable to create a habitable home and dying of exposure on a Derbyshire hillside.
