Day two of the 2016 Madrid Property Portal Watch conference in Madrid featured a number of keynote speakers, with everything from life on Mars to cracking the Chinese market.
The 300-plus delegates for the conference, the theme of which is: The Future for Online Real Estate Marketing – “Moving Beyond the Advertising Dollar”, were treated to a rousing address by Nigel Dalton, CIO of Australia’s REA-Group about the future of portal technology.
In his address, titled Mars, Stars, Cars & VR: New Media Landscapes for Property Portals, Dalton forecast the change in the air for the industry, and urged delegates to start thinking more like Tesla founder Elon Musk, who this week outlined a bold plan to build an express train to Mars.
“We’re in the property business, who’s going to open the first property portal on Mars?” he asked. “When it comes to Mars there are no rules, we are making them up. And my message about Mars is this – that down here on Earth today there are young people who are considering the rules for our industry – the property industry – to be off the table.
“Now we can think about that mindset for Mars, but why can’t we do that here on Earth? I have seen a lot of technology changes – I had TV come into my life, I had radio when I was a boy, computers, the internet, mobile internet and now virtual reality – I’m a big fan of virtual reality. I think it’s going to have a major impact on our industry.”

The delegates also heard from Charles Pittar, CEO Juwai , whose address, Implementing a China Marketing Campaign, showed insight about the challenges his company has faced to build a successful business in the region.
Other speakers on day two included Jeroen Bekkers, CEO of Floorplanner; Nicolas Guillaud de Saint-Ferréol from Apiwork
and Andrea Gerresheim and Michel Simonny from Apimo; Kevin M. Kyer from ListGlobally; Properstar Founder Shameem Golamy; Dialoga Group’s Asier de Felipe; and Lorenz Bogaert from Realo.
