Real estate website Zillow has settled four federal lawsuits that accused the company of harassment and discrimination, as well as a class-action claim alleging it failed to pay overtime to employees at its Irvine sales office, reports the Orange County Register.
The Register adds the company didn’t disclose the terms of the settlement and refused to admit any wrongdoing related to any of the suits, filed in late 2014.
The agreements were reached during a court-ordered settlement conference on May 5, the newspaper reports.
“We strongly believe it is in the best interest of our people and our business to reach closure, put these allegations to rest and move on,” a Zillow statement says.
In one of the lawsuits, a female employee accused supervisors in Zillow’s Irvine office of sexual harassment, including sending her sexually explicit text messages, and that she was later fired for opposing the conduct, according to the Register.
In court documents Zillow concedes sexually explicit texts were inappropriate, but claims the employee’s harassment claim was “frivolous,” the newspaper says.
Other lawsuits accused the company of racial and age discrimination, and one woman said she was fired after she couldn’t come to work because she was in the hospital.
In one case, an employee said the company retaliated against him after he reported an alleged credit card fraud scheme by co-workers.
In the class-action lawsuit, filed on behalf of at least 120 hourly sales consultants working in Irvine, the company was accused of pressuring workers into working early, late and through lunch breaks without overtime pay involving about $5M.
