Rare Unanimity in the Property Industry: Agents Need to Adopt Tech

Here at Online Marketplaces, we like to think we keep our fingers on the pulse of the global property industry better than anyone else. Since the onset of the global pandemic and subsequent lockdown restrictions as well as launching our own industry surveys we have read countless articles and opinion pieces on the importance of technology adoption. If you read industry press as much as we do, you’ll know that the property sector is rarely unanimous about anything, but over the last few months, opinions from across the spectrum seem to be converging on one topic: the importance of technology and its adoption for everyone in the value chain.

Consultants, agents, portal CEO guests on our Vodcast series, interviewees on our Powerful Women of Proptech Series, and our UK Challenger Portal Series have all said that the property industry is decades behind in its adoption of technology. We know that consumers increasingly expect more and more ‘listing tech’ as standard and the portals are reacting with new products. The group that everyone seems to be calling laggards without always specifically naming them is the agents and brokers.
