In mid-May, Redfin and Matterport had two lawsuits filed against them over stolen intellectual property pertaining to 3D image capture technology.

The 3D imaging company, Matterport, has a new class-action lawsuit against it, claiming that Matterport misrepresented a leads program, which caused the customers (mostly small business owners) millions of dollars in losses.

Leading the lawsuit is John Stemmelin who claims to have invested thousands of dollars into the Matterport Service Partners program, a service partner solution that connects people who need 3D imagery of a property with professionals who can provide scans using the Matterport’s special 3D cameras.

The suit reads:

“Because Matterport saturated Stemmelin’s local area with other purchasers to whom Matterport also promised filtered leads, Stemmelin has not been able to profit from selling 3D models generated by the equipment and services that were promised as a ‘lucrative’ business opportunity or recoup his investment.”

Stemmelin and his attorneys are asking for damages and that Matterport cease offering seller-assisted marketing products.
