Last week, we compared where Zillow and Costar Group, the two biggest real estate names in the region, compete in North America. Continuing our Who Owns Who series, we go to Oceania where we take a look at the various real estate classifieds owned by DCG, FF Venture Capital/Valhalla Partners/Outcome Capital, and REA/News Corp.

Oceania

DCG

Digital Classifies Group offers a portfolio of the best online classifieds platforms in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region. When it comes to Oceanian countries, DCG has two island countries under wrap.

Fiji

In Fiji, there are two portals that stan at the top of the market. Market.com.fj is Fiji’s most popular general online classifieds. Launching in 2015 and since being acquired by DCG, the company has plans to monetize the platform within the next two years.

When it comes to strictly real estate, Property.com.fj is the platform for buying, renting, and selling property on the islands. Launched in 2014, it is the other online classifieds that holds a strong place in DCG’s online classifieds portfolio.

Papua New Guinea

In Papua New Guinea, one portal stands out among the rest- Hausples.com.pg

Domain Group

Established in 1999, Domain Group is a digital property portal and associated real-estate industry business based out of Australia. Domain has a colorful history, as it was part of the merger between Fairfax Media and Nine Entertainment Co. in 2018.

Australia

These three companies share ownership of three well-known names in Australia’s real estate market.

In 2014, Fairfax Domain acquired Canberra property portal, Allhomes, for $50 million, adding the Allhomes brand to Domain’s portfolio of real estate platforms, which already included the Commercial Real Estate brand.

REA Group and News Corp.

REA Group is a huge real estate brand in the southern hemisphere. With a plethora of real estate brands that bleed well into Southeast Asia, REA Group has a stronghold on the Australian market where it is headquartered.

Australia

News Corp Australia, a subsidiary of News Corp, holds majority ownership of REA Group (62%, according to News Corp Australia’s website). Our own Simon Baker had predicted the acquisition back in 2012, where he wrote about the rumor that ended up coming to fruition.

In 2016, REA Group acquired Flatmates, adding the home-sharing rental platform to its real estate brand portfolio.
