VIDEO INTERVIEW: Malcolm Myers, Founder & CEO at European Internet Ventures

December 9, 2019

The 26th Property Portal Watch Conference was held in Madrid this past November; it was our largest event thus far, with 400+ C-Level leaders attending from 40 different countries around the world, among them, Malcolm Myers, CEO at European Internet Ventures (EIV) who sat down for a one-on-one interview with our Founder, Simon Baker.

Baker asked Myers to highlight two or three key takeaways from his presentation: "I think there are some very interesting developments going on. I think the most important one is that the models which have been very successful over the past years, what I call the classifieds 2.0 models, which is simply about listings and promoting listings, are increasingly coming under threat," said Myers, adding that the key message is that you should not stay in the 'comfort zone' of classifieds 2.0, you have to do something else.

Classifieds 3.0 which is ancillary services -- selling mortgages selling, finance of different forms of home repairs or insurance -- has some knowledge but it's usually more expensive, "I think that those kinds of services can go some way but usually have a lot of other competing vendors for those services, so property portals aren't necessarily making same margins on selling those services," stated Myers.
