Coworking space WorkSmart brings productivity and interactive collaboration to Glens Falls

Read any article about the successful traits of telecommuters, entrepreneurs, and other remote workers and you're bound to see commonalities like self-discipline, organizational skills, passion, and facility with networking.

On the flip side, you'll find this: According to a Buffer, Workfrom and Hubstaff joint survey of nearly 2,000 remote workers across the world, their top three struggles are loneliness, collaborating/communicating, and distractions at home.

That's in part what led Christy Alexander to open WorkSmart, a coworking space in Glens Falls designed to promote workplace happiness for everyone from freelancers to telecommuters.

From coffee shop to coworking space

"I decided to start this business because I had been working from home and I experienced feelings of disconnectedness and lack of motivation. My only option was to take up a table in a coffee shop which was distracting to me and unfair to the coffee shop," Alexander said. At the same time, she added, she was ready for a career shift.

After exploring opportunities, she discovered that other mobile professionals desire human connection in their workdays and often felt isolated or distracted at home.

"Those working to establish a business need resources, business services, and human connections. I knew I could help these people and play a role in building an ecosystem here, which would serve to support these individuals and positively impact the local economy."

— WorkSmart Founder, Christy Alexander

So Alexander got to work. A SUNY Adirondack graduate who studied management, marketing and entrepreneurship and has held customer-focused positions in the past, she had a bank of knowledge to use to make WorkSmart into something useful and different.
