Berufsstart has once again examined the soft characteristics of companies and their values, as seen in their Career Start Study "Attractive Employers" - and the data shows some consistent trends among graduate talent.

Working atmosphere

The most important criterion among the surveyed academics is by far the working atmosphere. More than 80% of all study participants have voted it as "important" and attach great value to this condition.

Small companies can especially gain significant advantages in talent-seeking with a public image of a great working atmosphere. Many small businesses are often characterized by flat hierarchies and an almost familial way of dealing with each other - these are some of the attributes that also make for a positive working atmosphere.

Benefits

A company's additional offers assert their place again this year: 29.4% of the study participants, and thus 3% more than 2018, rate the benefits in this year's study as crucial. But even here the "neutral" attributes predominate; more than half rate special benefits as irrelevant when deciding whether a job offer or employer is attractive.

Work-life balance

The high value of the work-life balance among the participants in the survey is an indicator of this generation's attitude towards life: 70% consider a balanced work and private life as vital, which leaves many stressful jobs seen as more unattractive.

The trend towards the working world 4.0 with flat hierarchies and more personal responsibility is still recognizable, however. The work environment and a balanced work and private life play a crucial role for the study participants.
