A Class IX boy from Bengaluru has recently launched a new initiative to help students receive counselling from global veterans and experts, entitled Schuniversity. Based on Skype, the platform was built by Rohan Nair in his hopes to create a new solution for youth looking to explore career paths.

Rohan is the youngest participant in the Future of Learning Conference, ‘Learning 4.0: Connecting the Dots and Reaching the Unreached’, being held in Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) on January 4 and 5.

“I launched this portal at IIT-Madras in August last to provide a platform for youngsters who are confused with various options to choose their dream career, but don’t know what to opt for. They are told about traditional courses like engineering and medicine by their parents, but someone who is really interested in music just misses the chance to even think of a viable career, but there is one and I want to help such young, different minds."

Through Schuniversity Rohan is trying to do connect these youngsters with world-class achievers so that they can interact with students and guide them. “Like in other institutes there are counsellors who are usually from a psychology background and if they want to guide students in a particular sport or a particular art movement, they will have to browse those details. Here, we are creating sessions with industry people who have done wonders,” added Nair.

When Rohan launched this platform at IIT Madras last year, about 50 students took up a counselling session through Skype. He added, “We have mentors like GP Padmanabhan, ex-director of of IISc, Brian Wilman, the programme director of London Business School, Nikhil Arora VP and MD Godaddy and Mohan Kumar who is the ex-defense secretary of India."
