With travel limitations brought on by the pandemic, real estate companies and consumers have had to get creative.

Outdoorsy, a unique and privately owned, Airbnb-style vacation travel platform was one such company. Having struggled to make its business catch on, the company has seen incredible growth since the pandemic began.

Through Outdoorsy, travelers can rent out RVs for their own personalized camping and travel plans. The pandemic has brought on both government-issued and self-enforced isolation to put a stopper on the spread of the virus. Many stir-crazy quarantiners have turned to apps like Outdoorsy to get a change of scenery.

Co-Founder Jeff Cavins connected with Yahoo Finance and commented on the recent success of his app.

“In terms of mass-market hotels, mass-market cities and airports, they have chosen to hit the road in recreational vehicles, camper vans, trailers as a way to avoid the pressure of life and lockup. And importantly because you can travel in one of these vehicles where you are maintaining disinfected environments. It’s a socially distant activity by design, and it seems to have become a national pastime in the last 90 days.”

The company has seen sales jump 4,500% between March and June of this year. In preparation for Labor Day weekend, sales have already increased by 227% year-over-year.

Cavins equates the interest in RVing to not only a “biological pandemic but a psychological pandemic,” as well. Cabin fever has been doing wonders for his company.
