In an interesting move, Singapore based portal company PopertyGuru has teamed up with Myanmar market-leading portal Shwe Property to put together an awards ceremony for the country’s developers. Although PropertyGuru does not operate a portal in Myanmar it has been running awards ceremonies for the developer market in the country for 6 years and also holds developer awards in several other Asian countries in which it does not have a portal presence.

This year’s ceremony, to be held on the 23rd of October, sees the PropertyGuru organisers teamed up with Shwe Property who are the big-name property portal in the country. This year there will be some new categories up for grabs which developers will have their eyes on:

  • Best Luxury Condo Development

  • Best Affordable Condo Development

  • Best Affordable Housing Development

In a recent vodcast interview with Simon Baker, PropertyGuru CEO Hari Krishnan explained that the awards ceremonies are a great way to get the bosses of family-run development companies, who might normally be quite aloof, to come and talk business.

The partnership between two portal companies in the region is strategically an intriguing move. Although the two companies do not compete in the Myanmar market, collaboration between portals from different countries is a rarity. Certainly, the partnership seems to be mutually beneficial, with Shwe Property CEO, Justin Sway saying:

“By pooling our resources and market expertise together, we have strengthened our collective platform recognising developers in Myanmar to bolster the reach of their businesses and spread awareness of their brands both locally via Shwe Property and internationally via PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards’ network and marks of excellence.”
